I recently bought myself a Haibike Trekking 4 and all I can say is I have no regrets.
As a young person living in a city with no car (although I do have a driving licence), I was relying on buses to get me from A to B and that would make seemingly short journeys into long winded ones.
My main motivation when buying the bike was to reduce my commute time from an hour each way to a quick 20-minute cycle. The first time I did this route to work, I came in with a beaming smile knowing that I had gained so much time in my day and therefore more time in bed!
It wasn’t just happy about the time I saved; I also really enjoyed the experience of moving my body before I went to the office. As someone who isn’t the fittest, it was especially nice that I could tailor the amount of energy I wished to expend and I was no longer subjected to battling hills in an uncomfortable manner. This means that I have complete freedom as to where I travel and what I take with me on my journey as I am not restricted to keeping extra items to a minimum.
I have also been finding the joy in going about my daily life on a bike. In a car locked city, there is no better feeling than bypassing traffic you otherwise would have sat in yourself. I was worried it would be scary going on busier roads but the amount of cycle routes available made it a breeze and I feel safe even on the when travelling in rush hour.
The power of the bike's motor also makes me feel secure when moving away from traffic lights or when stationary at a junction, there is no slow speed wobble and because of the quicker acceleration I am able to get ahead of other vehicles before they try and pass me.
Whether you’re waiting on buses or grid-locked in traffic, I couldn’t emphasis enough how much cycling could cut down your journey time and expenses.
Since I've owned my bike I have saved so much money too, my monthly bus fare was £80 a month plus shorter journeys by officially hired electric scooters, which were £3 for a 20 minute ride.
Making the switch has given me a new sense of freedom as I’m no longer constrained to the schedules of buses when going about my day.
I love my Haibike Trekking 4 (my boyfriend does too, he better get his own one soon!).
