Items covered in the class include

Puncture Repair

  • Practical (Deflate, remove tyre, remove tube check for holes, check for debris, fit tyre, fit tube, inflate to recommended pressure, re install)
  • Using bikes in store, so no need to bring your own bike (Hub gear bikes can be shown on request)

Cleaning Drivetrain

  • What cleaners need to be used for specific parts.
  • Best practice when cleaning drivetrain for best results.
  • How to check for worn parts.

Brakes

  • Understanding how a good working brake should feel.
  • Explaining symptoms of badly working brakes and how it would feel.
  • The difference in worn out parts to new parts.

Gears

  • Understanding how good working gears should feel.
  • Explaining what happens in the shifting process.
  • Demonstrate how to re tension your gears using the barrel adjusters.
  • Explaining the use of the tension screws on the rear derailleur.
