The new Bosch Performance Line CX motor is lighter, quieter, and smarter. Improved sensor technology makes engagement of the motor much more responsive, thus responding precisely to pedal input. This allows cyclists to tackle any challenge smoothly and with control. The new motor was officially revealed on 30th September 2024 many MY25 bikes will feature this technology.
Bosch entered the electric bike (e-bike) market in 2009, leveraging its expertise in automotive and industrial technology to create high-performance e-bike systems. The company introduced its first e-bike drive system in 2010, combining a motor, battery, and control unit. Bosch quickly became a leader in the e-bike industry by offering reliable and efficient mid-drive motors, which are mounted near the pedals for better weight distribution and natural riding experience.
Over the years, Bosch has expanded its product range to include systems for urban commuting, mountain biking, and long-distance touring, continuously evolving its technology with features like smart displays, integrated navigation, and smartphone connectivity.
Today, Bosch is considered one of the most influential companies in the e-bike sector, known for its commitment to quality, innovation, and sustainability.
The new Bosch CX motor is quieter and lighter than ever. When riding downhill, the external drivetrain (chain, cassette, chainring) are decoupled from the internal drivetrain (gearbox, motor) thus further reducing the mechanical noise generated by comparable drive units on the trail.
Inertial sensors (IMU) now measuring acceleration and rotational speeds in six dimensions, as well as recognising inclination, tilt angles and vibrations. This means that the system ‘knows’ how steep the ascent is and what terrain your e-bike is on. With the all-new hill start assist you can ride off in a relaxed manner with full traction. These sensors will provide the optimum support, based on the various metrics the IMU are monitoring.
The weight of the new Performance Line CX motor has been reduced by around 100 grams compared to the previous version and now features a magnesium housing, ride with confidence even in toughest conditions. A black powder coating also protects against stone chips and damage.
Battery choice has just become much more simplified with the new PowerTube 600Wh and 800Wh options. Enjoy longer rides without worrying about re-charging. The beauty is in the physical side though – PowerTube 600Wh & 800Wh share the same dimensions in length and width which makes them easily interchangeable without the need for an adapter. The PowerTube 800Wh is the highest energy density battery in its class, benefiting from new 20Wh 21700 cells which also offers superior battery safety
Both batteries are significantly lighter as well. For example, the PowerTube 800Wh, weighs 400 grams less than the 750Wh version. And for those seeking even more range, the PowerMore 250 is an option HERE – a bottle-sized extra battery that added up to 1050Wh of total capacity.
The new minimalist Purion 400 complements the Performance Line CX and is superior to the Purion 200. It includes more mounting features, which allows for 31.8mm, 35mm and direct mounting options.
The 1.6-inch transmissive display, which remains easily readable in bright sunlight, provides a clear overview of useful data such as speed, range, power output, and total distance. Additional features such as buzzer for audible notifications and real time fitness values help elevate the Purion 400 to a new level.
You may also notice that the controller on the top tube has a blanking plate around the current controller. Bosch Flow app is designed to offer e-bikers greater control, enhanced ride planning, and improved overall performance during their trips.
A very convenient feature is Range Control, which allows you to set exactly how much battery you want to have left when you reach your destination. You can also personalize the motor settings based on your riding style, whether you need maximum support on steep trails or more efficient riding during long trips.
You can also easily plan your routes and view live data such as speed, range, and battery status and The app also ensures your e-bike is always up to date with the latest software. You also use the eBike Lock function via the eBike Flow app on eBikes with the smart system, your smartphone acts as your digital key for activating motor support.
