How Much Does An E-Bike Weigh?

Don’t Be Worried About A Few Extra Pounds

One of the most common questions we are asked is how much do electric bikes weigh - it seems to be a concern for a lot of people.

Because of the battery, motor and stronger frame an E-Bike will weigh more then a non powered bike but please don’t worry – it’s a minor factor and not the most important one for normal use.

Unless you regularly need to lift your bike up lots of stairs or over obstacles the extra weight hardly makes a difference.

Modern engineering and design means they handle well, a mid mounted battery and motor keeps the bike balanced. Once you set off the motor assistance makes the extra pounds disappear.

Pushing an E-Bike around isn't hard work and if you turn on the walk-assist function you will be powered forward at 4mph.

So would you be faster if you bought a lighter bike?

Yes perhaps…but an electric bike for most isn’t about going fast it’s to get where you are going easily and being able to enjoy the ride. Having said that, if you've got any serious climbing to do, you'll always be faster on an E-Bike.

Come and give one a try - we promise you won’t be disappointed.

PS for anyone still interested modern electric bikes are between 20kg and 25 kg or in ‘old money’ well under 4 stone.
